Cannabis cultivation techniques for perennial crops
An interesting technique for growing cannabis
This technique allows regular replenishment of buds, and when grown for personal use, orderly rows of jars will never run out. All a grower needs is a little more space, additional equipment, and time to take care of a home plantation.
By establishing a continuous cycle, the grower will have a supply of marijuana that will never run out.
ESSENCE OF THE METHOD
The method of "eternal harvest" is as simple as possible and understandable to everyone.
It consists in the maintenance of two separate zones: one with growing, the other with flowering bushes.
- When a flowering bush reaches optimal maturity in a box, a plant from the growing chamber takes its place, and young clones or germinated seeds are planted there.
- When the very first plants mature, the circle closes, forming an endless cycle with harvests every 4-12 weeks.
- The interval between harvests depends on the genetics of the variety. If you choose autoflowers or fast photoperiod hybrids, a fresh crop will be ready to harvest about once a month, but sativa varieties will require more patience, but will also yield more.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS CANNABIS GROW METHOD
The growing cycle begins according to the "eternal harvest" method, like any indoor growing. One or more cannabis plants are planted in a grow box and kept in the vegetative stage until they reach their optimum size. When the bushes are ready to bloom, the fun begins.
About a week before switching the first batch of cannabis to 12/12 light, the grower should prepare new plants for the growth chamber. For this, you can use both clones and ordinary germinated seeds. After the grown bushes are moved to the flowering box, a new batch of seedlings takes their place. They develop in parallel in different rooms, and after 8-10 weeks, when the flowering plants ripen, bushes from the neighboring box that have already passed the vegetation stage are placed instead. And the empty space is again filled with young seedlings or rooted cuttings.
As a result of this approach, the interval between harvests is counted not from the germination itself, but from the moment the plants are transferred to the flowering box. This means that, on average, the frequency of home plantation harvests is doubled, and the crop will flow into the drying chambers and curing jars in an endless stream.
ADVANTAGES OF THE METHOD
The “perpetual harvest” cannabis cultivation technique has three main advantages:
- never-ending replenishment of stocks of cones,
- emergency insurance,
- variety of tastes and effects.
With the classical cultivation of cannabis in one box, a lot of time passes from harvest to harvest. During this period, the grower often manages to use up all the stocks of buds, and he has to rush about in search of alternative sources.
And the "eternal harvest" solves this problem. With this approach, the stocks of cones will be replenished with an enviable frequency, and from a couple of boxes you can harvest from 4 to 12 crops per year! Isn't this the dream of every cannabis grower?
Growers know that no one is immune from unforeseen situations. Even long-term cannabis growers sometimes encounter plant diseases or equipment failures that can kill an entire plantation at once.
In the case of the “eternal harvest” of cannabis, when plants are grown separately at different stages, losses, if they occur, only half of the plantation suffers. Diseased or stressed blooming bushes will immediately sprout plants from the grow box without the grower having to start the whole cycle over. The time savings will be at least a couple of weeks.
At first glance, it seems that the arrangement and maintenance of two boxes will double the financial costs, but this is not entirely true.
The fact is that cannabis at the stage of vegetative development does not require as much light and space as flowering plants.
He needs smaller pots, less free space and soft diffused light.
The smell during the growing season is unlikely to be strong, so you can do without a carbon filter. For the maintenance of hemp during the growing season, a small grow box with economical lighting and a simple ventilation system will suffice.
Naturally, it will take more time to maintain the health and nutrition of both plants. It will be necessary to separately prepare two types of fertilizers, apply techniques to increase yield and limit growth on growing bushes, and tie up and thin out flowering plants to prevent fungal infections.
But for real connoisseurs of cannabis, such daily work with green pets is a pleasure and does not bring any severe inconvenience. But the abundance of the finished product will give a certain impetus to mastering the preparation of hash or edible products from marijuana.
Another indisputable advantage of the "eternal harvest" is the opportunity to receive a harvest with a new taste, aroma and effect every couple of months. Thus, literally in 6-12 months you can collect a whole collection for every taste and every mood.
SEPARATION OF VEGETATION AND FLOWERING
The needs of cannabis at different stages of development are different. This is especially true for photoperiod cannabis strains, which need a reduction in daylight hours to switch to flowering. That is why it is impossible to keep developing and maturing cannabis plants in the same space when using the “eternal harvest” technique. The only exceptions are autoflowering strains, but about them a little later.
The first thing a grower who decides to implement the "eternal harvest" method should take care of is the preparation of two separate boxes for growing and flowering bushes.
These can be different grow boxes or just two isolated compartments in one large tent. The main condition: the light from one space should in no case fall on plants in another compartment. Otherwise, stress, revegetation or early flowering will constantly haunt the grower like a bad dream. As mentioned earlier, due to physiological characteristics, the room for cannabis during the vegetative stage can be more modest, since it needs much less space during this period.
But in order for the grow to bring the desired bountiful harvest, the plants at the flowering stage should not be limited in development. Of course, it all depends on the capabilities of the grower, but the more spacious the room for color, the less problems there will be. In addition to the bush, this space should contain an exhaust hood, a high-quality carbon filter, bright lighting with an optimal distance to the top of the bush, and other electrical equipment.
TIPS FOR DEVELOPING A VEGETATION BOX
- The cannabis growing chamber can be compact, it is not necessary to buy powerful expensive lighting for it. A few ESL or cool LED bulbs will suffice. At this stage of development, the plants do not exude a strong odor, so an air filter is not necessary here.
- If you decide to use one box with two sections for the “eternal harvest”, then take care of the maximum sealing of the space. In no case should light penetrate from one chamber to another.
- If you choose low-growing varieties of cannabis for cultivation in this technique, this will significantly reduce the required free space in the box for the vegetative phase.
TIPS FOR DEVELOPING A FLOWER BOX
- The space for flowering should be light-proof, since when light hits the plants at night, hermaphrodites may occur, as well as cannabis revegetation, which will negatively affect the planting yield.
- At the flowering stage, special attention should be paid to the parameters of air and its circulation in the room. Temperature and humidity must comply with the norms, and a powerful hood and a fan for blowing are indispensable conditions for growing.
- If the cultivation takes place in a residential area, then a strong smell from the bushes at the flowering stage can create a problem. To avoid unnecessary questions and problems with the law, it is better to take care of a good carbon filter for air purification in advance.
TIMING CANNABIS
Correct timing is an important condition for the successful cultivation of cannabis using the "eternal harvest" method.
It is important to calculate the duration of the growing season and colors in such a way that by the time the crop is ripe, the bushes in the neighboring zone have formed an optimal branched crown and are ready to bloom.
Creating bushes of the desired shape and size in a strictly limited time frame is not an easy task and requires some skills.
It is important to understand that focusing only on passport data is not enough, because in reality, plants can behave a little differently, which can shift the growing cycle.
There are varieties in which the growing season is much shorter than the flowering time. In this case, cannabis will have to be germinated a little later than the transfer of the older batch to flowering. During this time, the growing chamber will be idle. There is nothing wrong with this, but ideally, the duration of the growing season and flowering of planting for the "eternal harvest" should be the same. 8 weeks is the period during which almost any plant has enough time to develop and go through the growing season.
If a purebred Sativa has been chosen for cultivation, then the cycle time will be significantly extended. The average flowering period of such varieties is 12 weeks, but this time will be too long for the vegetation, so, most likely, the second chamber will be empty for some period of time. So the grower can save some money and his own time, but the long-awaited harvest will not come close.
An alternative solution would be to adjust the light regime in the growing chamber. If the bushes have already stretched enough and it makes no sense to keep them on the veg, and the plants in the neighboring box have not yet fully matured, you can set the 12/12 mode in both spaces. This will avoid a delay, because in the first chamber the bushes will already begin to gradually form inflorescences. When the plants in the flowering box go to dry, the second ones will take their place under brighter lamps with the right spectrum.
"ETERNAL HARVEST" AUTOFLOWERS
Since autoflowering cannabis seeds do not need to adjust the light regime for the transition to flowering, separate boxes for plants at different stages are not necessary with the “eternal harvest” method.
It will be enough to equip one spacious box, where bushes at different stages of development will grow side by side. When the first ones have passed about half of their life cycle, you can begin to germinate the next ones. The main thing is that the room has high-quality light with a spectral composition suitable for both stages of development.
The only drawback of autoflowering in this case is a rather modest performance. But if you choose the most productive variety , then the difference with the average photoperiod plant will be minimal. That is why it is recommended to pay special attention to the choice of variety for this method.
